Winter is coming back. At least temporarily.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a freeze warning for Tuesday morning that will impact Franklin County and dozens of other Ohio counties.

The warning takes effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday and lasts until 11 a.m. as temperatures fall into the 20s. The accompanying frost and freezing could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, according to the warning.

The warning is for Franklin, Union, Wayne, Fayette, Hardin, Mercer, Auglaize, Darke, Shelby, Logan, Union, Delaware, Miami, Champaign, Clark, Madison, Licking, Preble, Montgomery, Greene, Fayette, Pickaway, Fairfield, Butler, Warren, Clinton, Ross, Hocking, Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Highland, Adams, Pike and Scioto counties in Ohio.

Should you take your plants inside during spring frost?

Vegetables, annuals, and tropical plants that are planted early in the spring season are the most likely to be damaged by the impending frost. If you want these plants to survive, you can bring them inside, cover them with sheets or frost blankets, or use cold frames or cold tunnels, according to an article from Iowa State University.

Other plants like shrubs, trees and flower buds may be damaged by the frost but will likely survive.

To avoid the headache of protecting your plants, hold off on planting frost sensitive plants until later in the spring.
