House Speaker Mike Johnson will lead a memorial vigil Monday evening in the U.S. Capitol to honor the life and legacy of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10, 2025.
Johnson will be joined by congressional leaders for the event, scheduled for Monday, September 15, at 6:15 p.m. in Statuary Hall. They will deliver brief remarks and prayers.
The vigil follows Sunday night’s gathering at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, where Speaker Johnson, members of Congress, and administration officials reflected on Kirk’s commitment to faith, free speech, and open debate, and praised his influence on a generation of young conservatives.

That memorial stood in stark contrast to the 77th Emmy Awards in Hollywood, where Kirk’s assassination went unmentioned even as celebrities used the stage to spotlight unrelated political causes.
Vice President JD Vance, who called Kirk a close friend and mentor, announced that he will host The Charlie Kirk Show on Monday as a tribute. Vance said Kirk embodied a willingness to debate ideas openly and described him as a “great family man” who “genuinely believed in and loved Jesus Christ.”
Kirk founded Turning Point USA in 2012, growing it into a major force in conservative youth activism. His death has prompted tributes across the nation, with his influence remembered by political leaders and supporters alike.
