An illegal alien from Spain suffered frostbite after crossing the border from Canada into New York on Wednesday. Following treatment at a local hospital, Border Patrol officials he was processed for removal.
Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia posted photos of a Spanish migrant who had to be rescued after he illegally crossed the border from Canada. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO) agents and ICE agents assisted in the rescue operation, Garcia stated.
Officials transported the migrant to a hospital, where he received treatment for frostbite on his toes, photos reveal. That day, temperatures in Massena, New York, ranged from -3 to 11 degrees Fahrenheit.
Following his frostbite treatment, agents placed him into immigration removal proceedings, Garcia reported.
Three days earlier, an illegal alien from Algeria suffered a similar plight as he crossed the border from Canada into New York near Champlain, Breitbart Texas reported.
The Algerian migrant was also placed into immigration removal proceedings following his medical treatment.
During the Biden administration, the Swanton Sector became the busiest migrant crossing point for the Canadian border with the U.S. According to the CBP Nationwide Encounters Report, the apprehension of migrants in that sector peaked in March 2024, when more than 3,300 migrants were arrested for crossing from Canada into Vermont, New Hampshire, or Eastern New York. By January 31, that number fell to 354—the lowest number since June 2023.
During the first four months of FY 25, which began on October 1, 2024, Swanton Sector agents encountered 2,210 migrants. This is down from nearly 3,200 during the same period last year.
