Updated reports indicate that one immigrant detainee is dead and several people were injured in Dallas after an attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility early Wednesday morning. Reports indicate the shooter is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
UPDATE: 10-45 a.m.: FBI Director Kash Patel posted that only one person was killed in the sniper attack on the ICE facility on the north side of Dallas Wednesday morning. He said multiple people were injured. Patel also reported the sniper had an “Anti-ICE” political ideology that may have motivated the shooting.
Parkland Hospital reports that two people were admitted with gunshot wounds. They did not release any information about the patients’ condition.
Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News, “We believe he was shooting at law enforcement and detainees from an apartment building. Detainees were among the victims of the shooting.”
“UPDATE: 9:30 a.m.: Dallas police officials reportd they may know the identity of the shooter, FOX4 reports. Police found him dead on the roof of a law firm building, where he fired into an unmarked ICE transport van. Police are working to confirm the shooter’s identity before disclosing his name. The shooter is described as a white male who was armed with a rifle. Police say the sniper shot himself as agents approached him.
ORIGINAL STORY CONTINUES:
Police received information regarding a possible sniper near the ICE office on North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas at about 7 a.m. Wednesday. Sources say the shooter was found dead on the roof of a nearby immigration attorney’s office, WFAA reported.
Dallas Police Department officials issued a statement, reporting:
On September 24, 2025, at about 6:40 a.m., Dallas Police responded to an assist officer call in the 8100 block of north Stemmons Freeway. The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building. Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a statement, saying:
Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities. The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound. While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.
She reported that the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them,” Noem stated. “It must stop.”
Vice President JD Vance reposted Noem’s statement and added, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons reportedly indicated that no ICE officers were shot. The dead and wounded were all immigrant detainees. “It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees,” Lyons told reporters. “At this point, we’re still working through that.”
Breitbart Texas reached out to ICE officials for additional information on the shooting incident. A response was not available at press time.
Fox4 Dallas reported that a man was arrested in August for approaching a Dallas ICE facility with what he claimed was a “detonator.” Agents arrested 36-year-old Bratton Dean Wilkinson, saying he claimed to have a bomb in his backpack. He is charged with making terroristic threats.
