Whenever Selena Gomez releases new music, it’s always a major event. The singer and actress is one of the most famous people in the world right now, and her reach on social media is near unparalleled. Following a very busy awards season that saw her collect prizes for Only Murders in the Building and promote her Netflix musical Emelia Perez, the star is quickly working toward the release of a new album. This Friday (March 14) sees her almost dominate an important chart with her latest tune.
Gomez launches her new single “Sunset Blvd” inside the highest reaches of iTunes Top Songs chart. The track, a collaborative affair with her fiancé Benny Blanco, appears at No. 3 as of the time of writing.
Usually, when Gomez drops a new tune, it bolts right to No. 1 on iTunes as her fanbase flocks to anything she shares and turns it into a quick bestseller. Typically, a large number of purchases help her albums and songs fly high on the Billboard charts, and that’s likely what will happen when “Sunset Blvd” finishes its first tracking frame.
Sleep Token Hits No. 1
Two brand new cuts block Gomez and Blanco from hitting No. 1 on iTunes, at least as of early Friday morning. English metal band Sleep Token rules, beating two of the biggest pop stars on the planet. That group’s new single “Emergence” stands out at No. 1.
Chappell Roan Rises Above Selena Gomez
Chappell Roan is also back with a new tune, one which becomes a bestseller as it drops. The new Grammy winner’s track “The Giver” sees her venture from pop to country, and it seems that her following, which has grown rapidly in the past year or so, is interested in hearing it. That tune lands at No. 2, just ahead of Gomez and Blanco.
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s First Album Together
“Sunset Blvd” is the second single taken from Blanco and Gomez’s forthcoming collaborative album, titled I Said I Love You First. The project sees the musicians sharing their love story, and the full-length is expected to arrive later this month.
Less than a month ago, the two lovebirds began promoting I Said I Love You First with lead single “Call Me When You Break Up,” a collaboration with pop musician Gracie Abrams. That track got off to a strong start in its first few hours, but it didn’t turn out to be a huge win.
The tune debuted at No. 58 on the Hot 100 and then began falling. It has cracked the top 40 on a number of other important lists, including several of Billboard’s pop radio rosters, but thus far, it has not been met with the same warm welcome as many of Gomez’s past releases.
