A man accused of killing a Port Huron man was arraigned Monday after being extradited from Georgia.

Dazman Robert Drake, 23, is accused of shooting and killing Vincent Buckles at Buckles’ home on Jan. 28. He’s been charged with six felonies, including open murder, felony firearm use, fourth-degree arson, arson – preparation to burn property valued at $1,000 or more, tampering with evidence and receiving or concealing a stolen motor vehicle.

Drake was originally arrested in Georgia by U.S. Marshalls. While he was awaiting extradition his codefendant, 36-year-old Sayon Rena-Tennille-Semaj Florence, underwent a preliminary examination where it was stated she had a child in common with Buckles and had accused him of child abuse. No charges were filed against Buckles.

During Florence’s preliminary hearing, Port Huron Police Detective James Campbell testified that Florence admitted to setting up the confrontation between Buckles and Drake, but said she only intended for Drake to scare Buckles, not kill him.

Drake is also wanted in Detroit as a suspect in a double shooting that left a 40-year-old man dead while a 20-year-old man was severely injured.

Drake was denied bond at his hearing. A probable cause conference has been scheduled in Drake’s case for 9 a.m. April 22.

If convicted, both Drake and Florence face up to life in prison.
