A group of scientists conducting water tests found a body in the Cape Fear River on Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

According to the SBI, the body was discovered around 2:30 p.m. March 18. The location was downtown, east of the railroad crossing bridge and west of the Eastern Boulevard bridge. The SBI said recovery was delayed due to fallen trees and debris from past hurricanes.

The body was taken to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and identification, officials said.
