Getty ImagesSB19 has been one of the biggest names in Filipino pop for years now, and the group has been slowly but steadily building a fan base internationally. This week, the band lands a historic placement in the U.K., marking what could be the start of a much larger global breakthrough.
“Dam” Earns SB19 Its First Hit in the U.K.
The band’s new song, “Dam,” opens at No. 4 on both the Official Singles Sales and the Official Singles Downloads charts. Those two rankings track the bestselling tracks in the U.K., with the former covering all purchases and the latter focusing specifically on downloads.
Before this week, SB19 had never appeared on any ranking in the U.K. That changes, as “Dam” introduces the band to the country’s charts – which could help the musicians reach a larger audience.
Many Asian musical acts have struggled to break into Western markets, but the growing global interest in acts beyond K-pop suggests that more talent from the region will soon find chart success in places that were previously difficult to crack.
“Dam” is the First Single Taken From a New Project
“Dam” serves as the lead single from SB19’s upcoming EP, Simula at Wakas. The short collection is expected to arrive in April, giving the band another opportunity to make an impact internationally.
SB19’s Upcoming Third EP
SB19 has been steadily expanding its discography over the years, and Simula at Wakas will be the group’s third EP. The band’s last major release arrived in the summer of 2023, and before that, it shared its first and only full-length album, Get in the Zone, nearly five years ago.
Clearly, the time away from releasing new music hasn’t hurt the outfit, as U.K. fans seem more interested than ever in the boy band’s output.
SB19 Scores the Top Debut
Among all new arrivals, “Dam” claims the highest debut on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts this week. Only three tracks outsell it on both rankings: “Messy” by Lola Young, “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan, and “Apt.” by Blackpink’s Rosé and Bruno Mars.
