For several years now, Asian vocal groups have been managing an incredible and never-before-seen impact on the American music charts. The wave began more than a decade ago, and it continues to this day with K-pop, which is far and away the most successful style from that part of the world when it comes to the U.S. market. Slowly but surely, names from other nations are making their work heard as well.

This frame, a group that has already established itself as one of the most successful of all time from its home nation scores a very important win in America. Filipino boy band SB19 lands a new hit on one Billboard chart this week. The group’s new single, “Dam,” wastes no time in becoming a bestseller and earning the rising outfit its debut champion.

SB19 Hits No. 1 in America

“Dam” opens at No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. According to Luminate, the tune outpaces every other track that’s eligible for Billboard’s world ranking by selling a little less than 1,200 copies in the past tracking frame.

SB19 Only Reaches the One Billboard Chart

That figure is not enough to bring SB19 to any other purchase-centric roster – but still grand enough to make it a ruler on one tally. This week, the lowest-ranking hit on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, “Wondering Why” by Red Clay Strays, sold a little less than 1,800 copies. So while SB19 doesn’t reach that list, the Filipino boy band wasn’t far from doing so.

SB19 Scores a Second Top 10 Win

SB19 collects its second hit on the World Digital Song Sales ranking this period. The group launched on the tally — which is often dominated by popular acts from other parts of the globe — in the summer of 2023, a year and a half ago. “Gento” opened at No. 8, giving the vocal troupe its first placement and top 10 on the tally, though it disappeared after just one stay.

What’s Next for SB19

“Dam” serves as the first single from SB19’s upcoming EP, Simula at Wakas. The group’s third short collection is expected in mid-April, and it will mark the boy band’s first project in nearly two years, though the group did share several standalone tunes throughout 2024.
