Alien Romulus is now available on digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video and AppleTV+ two months after its theatrical debut. If you’re gearing up for an Alien movie marathon, read on to find out how to watch Alien Romulus just in time for spooky season.
The sci-fi thriller is the ninth installment in the Alien franchise and the anticipated sequel to 2017’s Alien: Covenant. “While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe,” the synopsis reads. The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Director Fede Álvarez told IndieWire that Romulus is a tribute to and departure from Ridley Scott and James Cameron’s films. “At the end of the day, I hope it is some sort of rebel child of those first two movies,” he explained. “Like, you kind of look like your parents, but you don’t want to look like your parents. You want to be your own man. That’s kind of what the spirit of the movie is.”
Alien: Romulus had a successful run at the box office, earning $349 million worldwide, including $105 million in domestic sales, according to Box Office Mojo. This makes Romulus the second biggest film in the franchise (unadjusted for inflation), behind Prometheus (2012). The sequel is also IMAX’s highest-grossing horror movie of all time at the global box office.
Viewers have responded positively to the horror thriller, giving it an 80% score from critics and a slightly higher 85% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Read on to discover how to watch Alien: Romulus on digital and when the film will likely be available on Disney+ and Hulu.
