Becoming Led Zeppelin — a documentary about the iconic rock group featuring Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham — is coming soon to digital streaming.
Directed by Bernard MacMahon, Becoming Led Zeppelin opened on IMAX screens on Feb. 7 before being released in theaters nationwide on Feb. 14. The official summary for the film reads, “Becoming Led Zeppelin explores the origins of this iconic group and their meteoric rise in just one year against all the odds.
“Powered by awe-inspiring, psychedelic, never-before-seen footage, performances, and music, Bernard MacMahon’s experiential cinematic odyssey explores Led Zeppelin’s creative, musical, and personal origin story. The film is told in Led Zeppelin’s own words and is the first officially sanctioned film on the group.”
Becoming Led Zeppelin is expected to arrive on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Friday, April 4, When to Stream reported.
While the streaming tracker is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, it did not indicate whether the release was announced or confirmed by its studio Sony Pictures Classics and the date is subject to change.
When Becoming Led Zeppelin arrives on PVOD, it will be available on a variety of video platforms including AppleTV, Fandango at Home and Prime Video. PVOD purchase prices generally run anywhere from $19.99 to $29.99 to purchase and $14.99 to $24.99 to rent for 48 hours.
How Was ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin Received By Audiences And Critics?
Consisting of singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham, Led Zeppelin was formed in 1968. The group disbanded in 1980 following the untimely death of Bonham at age 32.
During the group’s career, Led Zeppelin recorded such rock classics as “Stairway to Heaven,” “Whole Lotta Love,” “Ramble On,” “Immigrant Song,” “Dancing Days,” “Black Dog” and “Kashmir.” Led Zeppelin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
Becoming Led Zeppelin has earned $10 million in ticket sales domestically and nearly $2.5 million internationally for a worldwide box office of $12.5 million to date, The Numbers reporteds. Information about the film’s production budget has not been released.
The film received an 82% “fresh” rating based on 39 reviews from Rotten Tomatoes critics. The RT Critics consensus for Becoming Led Zeppelin reads, “Presenting the origins of Led Zeppelin with laser focus, this doc isn’t the definitive document on the band but blows the roof off with its killer soundtrack.”
Becoming Led Zeppelin also received a 95% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 500-plus verified user ratings. The audience summary for the film on RT reads, “Supported by terrific concert footage and interviews, the nostalgic Becoming Led Zeppelin is an inspiring and insightful making-of-the-band rock doc best suited for music aficionados and Led heads.”
Rated PG-13, Becoming Led Zeppelin is expected to be released on PVOD on April 4.
