Reynolds Lake Oconee Announces Eighth Golf Course, Third For Members

Reynolds Lake Oconee has announced that construction on an eighth course at the lakefront community … More is underway, with Fenmoor set to be the third for members only.

Reynolds Lake Oconee

Reynolds Lake Oconee unveiled plans for its eighth golf course within its sprawling resort real estate community, with the forthcoming Fenmoor Golf Club being the third that will be limited to member-only play.

Construction is already underway and the 18-hole layout, designed by architect Steve Smyers, is scheduled to open in Fall of 2026. Fenmoor will join The Creek Club and Richland, which debuted last year, as the third private course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, where golf demand has surged in recent years among a residential base that’s continued to not only grow but get younger. Ahead of Richland’s 2024 opening, annual rounds at Reynolds Lake Oconee’s courses had jumped 44% compared to pre-pandemic years.

Located in the northeast corner of the 12,000-acre lakefront community, Fenmoor will occupy a distinctive site at the headwaters of Lake Oconee, featuring marshland edges, native grasses, and rolling terrain that provides natural elevation changes and water features throughout the routing. Nine greens will be positioned directly along the water’s edge, with Lake Oconee visible from much of the course.

“The land is absolutely ideal for golf,” said Smyers. ” We’re very fortunate to have a piece of property this diverse, with the movement of the land — gentle rolls, swales, valleys, hummocks, mounds, and ravines — combined with the presence of water running through it. This site allows us to create a course with a distinct look and feel unlike any other at Reynolds Lake Oconee.”

As the name suggests, water will be a defining feature of the course. Beyond the presence of the lake itself, the Fenmoor site is interwoven with rivulets and streams branching from Richland Creek, providing for multiple water crossings and creating an ever-changing landscape between lakefront, wooded wetlands, and marshes to grassy fields and meadows.

“Native plants will connect the course to the marsh, the lake, and the tree line,” Smyers explained. “We want the golf course to feel as if it simply emerges from the landscape.”

Water will be a defining feature of Fenmoor, with nine water’s edge greens.

When Fenmoor opens, it will give Reynolds Lake Oconee 144 total holes of golf, trailing only Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina and Boyne’s collection of Michigan properties in terms of total holes among American golf destinations. While other resorts such as Bandon Dunes in Oregon and Michigan’s Gull Lake View offer more holes open to public play, Reynolds’ unique blend of public and private options serves both resort guests and its 4,000 member families at the property midway between Atlanta and Augusta, Georgia.

Five of Reynolds’ seven existing courses – Great Waters, The Landing, The National, The Oconee, and The Preserve – are open to public play as well as guests of the on-property Ritz-Carlton.

In addition to the new course, Fenmoor Golf club will feature a dedicated putting course, numerous short-game areas, and expansive practice facilities designed for game improvement. There will also be a new clubhouse that will feature a restaurant and bar, men’s and women’s locker rooms and lounges, terraces, and a variety of gathering spaces.

“Fenmoor Golf Club reflects our constant vision to thoughtfully grow Reynolds Lake Oconee while preserving the natural beauty and character that make this community so special,” said John Gunderson, CEO of Daniel Communities, the managing partner for Reynolds Lake Oconee.

The community in recent years has continued to evolve into a multi-generational destination, supported by expanded amenities including 11 restaurants, a Sporting Club, regular entertainment, the wealth of lake activities, and wellness and fitness facilities including pools, gyms, tennis and pickleball courts, hiking trails, and an on-site spa.
