Spanish soccer giant Real Madrid has made an important transfer policy decision ahead of next season according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Los Blancos won the UEFA Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup in 2024/2025, but have been left with a bitter taste in their mouth by seeing bitter rival FC Barcelona beat them no fewer than four times on its way to lifting a domestic treble.

As is common when his club comes up short, President Florentino Perez has already been making landmark changes and getting his chequebook out with one eye on next season despite the current one having not yet concluded.

Outgoing head coach Carlo Ancelotti will take the Brazil manager’s job on May 26 as he has already announced himself.

And though Madrid hasn’t released an official ‘comunicado’ on the matter, it is widely expected that the Italian will be replaced by Xabi Alonso ahead of the Club World Cup.

As for the transfer market, we already know that Madrid has made a defensive reinforcement by signing Spain international Dean Huijsen at the weekend.

This was done by activating the 20-year-old’s $68 million (£50 million) release clause at Bournemouth. Yet according to SPORT, the center back born in the Netherlands who moved to Spain as a youngster will be Madrid’s only signing in that area of the pitch.

This becomes despite Madrid having to witness the likes of Eder Militao, David Alaba and Toni Rudiger all battling for fitness at various points of the campaign.

Yet should they all become available, Alonso will have five central defenders on his books including Huijsen and Raul Asencio as well. Furthermore, the permanent rise of Jacobo Ramon and Joan Martinez from the reserves can’t be ruled out either.

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso will still be able to make other signings

Though Alonso can’t get another defender, he can go after a midfielder and reportedly believes that one with a more defensive profile is needed.

Simultaneously, COPE reports that Real Madrid has already agreed to bring its former Argentine international Nico Paz back from Como. If it does so before June 30, Perez will only have to part with $6.8 million (€6 million) but that fee rises to $10.13 million (€9 million) after said date.
