The group released enough beloved albums and hugely popular singles to ensure that years after the rockers stopped producing new material, they would continue to find space on the charts in the nation where it all started.
This frame, one of Queen’s most successful tunes returns to a single tally. It manages to become a top 40 bestseller again, and as it does, the group breaks out of a momentary tie with another hard rock favorite.
“I Want to Break Free” is back on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart. The tune once again ranks among the bestselling titles in those genres in the U.K., as it blasts back in at No. 39 this week.
Queen occupies five spaces on the list of the top-selling rock, hard rock, and metal tracks throughout the U.K. The band claims the second-most appearances this time around, and manages to best another beloved group.
Last frame, Queen was matched with AC/DC in terms of the greatest number of hits on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart. Now, the Australian group holds steady with its four smashes, while Queen ups its count to a quintet of champions.
Only Linkin Park manages to beat both Queen and AC/DC, as well as every other band that appears on the tally. The screamo legends once again fill half a dozen spaces on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart. Both Guns N’ Roses and Green Day come in behind AC/DC with a trio of smashes.
Queen scores a pair of top 10s on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart this week. “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” keep steady from last frame, landing at No. 3 and No. 10, respectively. In between those top 10 winners and “I Want to Break Free” in second-to-last place come another pair of Queen classics. “Another One Bites the Dust” steps up two spaces to No. 17. At the same time, “We Will Rock You” ascends from No. 30 to No. 29 on the latest edition of the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart.
