Russian President Vladimir Putin has called his country’s drone production for the war against Ukraine insufficient.
“These combat tools are still lacking,” the Kremlin leader said during a meeting of the Military and Defence Commission in Moscow.
Camera-controlled drones, in particular, are urgently needed at the front, as they are a crucial factor for success in the war, Putin said.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that all plans to increase drone production would be fulfilled, noting that last year, the number of drones produced had been increased to 1.5 million. Of these, approximately 4,000 remote-controlled drones are being sent daily to the Russian-Ukrainian front.
Putin praised strong production figures in other areas.
“Last year, practically all defence companies fulfilled state orders in full, with high quality and on time,” the president said. In some cases, orders were even completed ahead of schedule. More than 4,000 units of armoured equipment, as well as 180 combat aircraft and helicopters, were delivered, Putin said.
His figures are not able to be independently confirmed.
Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, following its illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. Russia now controls nearly one-fifth of Ukraine’s territory.
