ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A Pensacola man was sentenced to prison time for attempted murder, among other charges, in connection with a February 2023 incident, News 5 has learned.

According to a news release from the Florida First Judicial Circuit State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden’s office, Judge Linda Nobles sentenced Aubray Dion Grandison to 25 years in state prison for the following charges: attempted murder; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; shooting at, into or within an occupied vehicle; fleeing to elude; escape; criminal mischief; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The release said Grandison will serve 10 of his 25-year sentence day-to-day, which is consistent with Florida’s 10-20-Life statutes.

According to Madden’s office, Grandison stole a Dodge pickup truck from a Garden Street gas station on Feb. 20, 2023. The truck owner saw this happen and jumped in the truck bed.

Grandison then fired gunshots at the victim in the truckbed. When he slowed down, the victim jumped out of the truckbed, the release said.

Escambia County deputies tried to stop Grandison, but he instead accelerated through a neighborhood. Deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the truck. Law enforcement can stop a fleeing vehicle by forcing it to spin out and come to a stop, often by making contact with the rear of the car.

The release said Grandison was ultimately arrested, and he then tried to escape law enforcement custody on foot.

“Mr. Grandison showed he had no regard for life,” Assistant State Attorney Christopher Patterson, who prosecuted the case, said. “He attempted to murder a father of three in cold blood and sped through the community with no regard for anyone’s safety.”

The Pensacola Police Department and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office worked together to arrest Grandison and conduct the investigation.
