Pensacola police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal drive-by shooting last year that left a 22-year-old man dead.
Tyree Baldwin, 22, is charged with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Terrell Omar Owens, who was fatally shot at the corner of Gonzalez and M streets on June 20, 2024, according to court records.
Back in 2024, Pensacola Police Department spokesperson Mike Wood told the News Journal that multiple suspects “began firing with multiple firearms at the victim, who was struck in the head.”

In Baldwin’s arrest record, officers said a “key witness” described the vehicle allegedly housing Baldwin as a white SUV, with surveillance footage corroborating the eyewitness testimony. Recorded jail calls between Baldwin, who was in jail on an unrelated charge, and another person revealed that he subleased a white 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe on June 8, 2024, and returned it just two days after Owens’ death, according to police records.
License plate readers in Escambia County show the vehicle Baldwin rented remained in the county for the duration of his rental from Hertz.
During the investigation, a search warrant for Baldwin’s cell phone uncovered alleged recorded statements made by him seemingly explaining details about the crime only someone with firsthand knowledge would have. The detective on the case said a voice analysis of Baldwin’s voice and the recording matched.
“Comments made by Baldwin included, ‘that was a weird … that was a weird fall,'” records said. “Additionally, Baldwin advised, ’10 milli knocked him off his feet type s**t.’
“These statements are consistent with exact details of the homicide and would only be described if the person was present,” the report added. “The fact that 10 millimeter shell casings were indeed recovered from the homicide scene and the way Owens fell to the ground was consistent with a witness statement from the homicide scene.”
Officers noted Baldwin changed his story multiple times and was “deceptive until confronted with irrefutable evidence regarding his involvement in the investigation.”
Baldwin remains in Escambia County Jail without bond pending his first court appearance.
