A Norwich man remains in police custody after he was arrested Friday on warrants for two separate incidents, both in Norwich.
Ronnie Hinton, 52, was released from prison in 2023 after serving 33 years for murder. Hinton killed three people with a shotgun in Hartford when he was 17.
The first arrest warrant affidavit alleges Hinton broke into an apartment at 181 Broadway in Norwich on October 19, 2024, and kidnapped two people to whom he had sold crack cocaine. According to the affidavit, Hinton was upset, as one of the victims had paid for the crack cocaine with fake money. After breaking into the apartment, Hinton started swinging a box cutter, leading to a cut on the victim’s forearm.
The arrest warrant affidavit states Hinton then kidnapped two of the four victims at knifepoint. While walking to Dime Bank to withdraw money, Hinton hit one victim in the face, causing both of his eyebrows to bleed. Hinton fled when he heard the police coming.
Norwich Police arrested Ronnie Hinton Friday on two outstanding warrants.
As a result of this incident, Hinton was with home invasion, assault in the second degree, disorderly conduct, kidnapping in the second degree and sale of narcotics. Hinton was held in Norwich Police custody on a $500,000 court-set cash surety bond.
The second arrest warrant
The other arrest warrant affidavit alleges Hinton cut a man’s neck with a box cutter at an apartment on 191 Franklin Street in Norwich Feb. 24, 2025. The man said he had gotten into a fight with Hinton over clothing that had been left in a closet at that apartment.
Hinton is charged with assault in the first degree, carrying a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct for the events related to the Feb. 24 incident, also with a court-set cash surety bond of $500,000.
Hinton’s next scheduled court date is April 14 at Norwich Superior Court.
