An explosion ripped through a cafe in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Thursday, killing at least nine people and injuring 20, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health. Authorities believe that the blast was caused by a bomb.

The explosion took place shortly after 3 PM local time at a cafe in the al-Marjah district, Syrian state media reported. At the nearby Palace of Justice, trials had recently been held for several members of former President Bashar Assad’s government.
