Meloni is acting against face veils

Italian children can’t be minorities in Italian schools, the PM said.

A little over a year before the next Italian elections, we see Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni repositioning herself back to the right side of the political spectrum, after having drifted to the Globalist center during a good part of her mandate.

Now, Meloni has much more competition for the right votes, as you can read in Former General’s New Rightwing Party Rocks Italy, Becomes a Stone in PM Meloni’s Path to Reelection.

So, today, the Prime Minister announced two legislative proposals: to ban face coverings in Italian schools, and also restrict the number of foreign students allowed in classrooms.

This initiative had already been floated back in 2025, with her party calling it ‘a response to Islamic separatism’.

Politico reported:

“’Italian children cannot feel like a minority in the classroom’, she said Sunday in a speech at Fenix, an annual event organized by the youth division of her right-wing Brothers of Italy party.

‘If the number of children who do not understand the language of instruction becomes large, or even forms the majority, that is no longer integration; that is neglect’, Meloni added.”

Almost a million illegals crowd the Italian schools – more than 10% of the student population.

Euronews reported:

“Several European countries, including France and Belgium, already ban face coverings in public places. Austria has also introduced restrictions in schools. […] Meloni said a package of measures will soon go before the Italian cabinet, including a ban on burqas and niqabs in schools, a requirement for parents of pupils facing “serious difficulties integrating” into the national school system to learn Italian, and a limit on places for foreign pupils.

[…] The proposed amendment would create a new offence of forcing someone to conceal their face, punishable by one to two years in prison and fines of between €10,000 and €30,000. It would also bar those convicted from obtaining Italian citizenship.”

Italian PM Meloni:

The proposed measure will introduce an obligation for the parents of foreign students with serious school-integration problems to learn Italian, and it will introduce a ban on the burqa and niqab at school.

“If Italy introduces a statutory maximum for foreign pupils in each class, it would become the first European country to adopt such a rule, according to the proposal.

Italy already has a 30% limit on non-Italian pupils, set out in a 2010 ministerial circular issued by then-Education Minister Mariastella Gelmini. The limit has often gone unenforced because of local demographic conditions and a lack of flexibility, particularly in urban outskirts.”
