In Dresden, a 21-year-old U.S. citizen was fatally stabbed by a Syrian national on Sunday, August 24, after intervening in a streetcar when women were being harassed.
According to police, the young man stepped in to defend the women and was attacked with a knife. He later died of his severe injuries.
One suspect, a Syrian, was arrested near the scene, while another accomplice is still at large.
AfD foreign policy politician and Member of the European Parliament Petr Bystron commented on the case: “This is the consequence of Merkel’s open-border policy.”
“Attacks like this happen in Germany every single day. Now it has affected a courageous American. We must work together with Trump to put an end to this madness.”
The incident has reignited the debate over Germany’s migration policy since Angela Merkel’s so-called “welcome culture,” which critics argue has opened the door to repeated violent crimes.
Police continue to search for witnesses among the many passengers present during the attack.
