Communist Zohran Mamdani has prevailed against former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for New York City’s mayoral race.
As the winner of the Democratic primary, Mamdani will go on to the general election and surely stand a high chance of becoming mayor of the Big Apple.
“Tonight, we made history,” he said during his victory speech. “I will be your Democratic nominee for the mayor of New York City.”

However, he will have to defeat the likes of incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is standing as an independent, as well as Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Mamdani is a self-confessed left-wing radical. He has waged a longstanding campaign aimed at defunding the New York Police Department, which he claims are designed to “control black, brown and poor New Yorkers.”
He also believes that defunding the police is essential for the cause of “queer liberation” and the law enforcement are complicit in aiding a “violent, right-wing government” in persecuting minorities.

Among Mamdani’s other bright ideas include the launching of city-owned grocery stores, a policy most notoriously implemented by the Soviet Union under Josef Stalin that wreaked disastrous consequences.
NEW: Two-thirds of NYC voters support creating municipal grocery stores to bring down prices.
“The concept is imminently feasible. In fact, publicly owned grocery stores are quite common and already exist at scale—in the US military.”

The 33-year-old is also heavily invested in Palestinian liberation causes and recently said that he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he traveled to New York City.
He has also used the phrase “Globalize the Intifada,” insisting it is a mere call for Palestinian rights rather than a push towards Islamic supremacy.
I’m not a New Yorker, but anyone who can’t condemn globalizing the intifada, especially after PA, DC, and CO, is manifestly unfit for office.
