Apr. 3—The Austin man facing charges in a trio of cases involving drugs has been sentenced to probation in one of them.
Vontrell Doujour Reeves, 28, was sentenced to three years supervised probation for felony third degree drugs sales/possession. The sentence comes with a lengthy list of conditions Reeves must follow.
With warrants out for two of the cases, Reeves was arrested on March 29 and charged with felony third degree drug possession in a school/park/public housing zone and felony fifth degree drug possession.
In the case resulting in Thursday’s sentencing, it dates back to November of 2022, when Reeves was arrested and charged with two felony counts of third degree narcotic sales as well as felony fourth degree drug possession with the intent to sell.
According to the complaint in that case a confidential informant bought 14 M-30 pills from Reeves. A couple months later, in January of 2023, Austin police searched a home in the 100 block of Second Avenue SE and discovered a knotted off baggie containing a large number of the pills.
Reeves claimed that he was selling the pills to help the person who leased the residence pay for rent.
Reeves pleaded not guilty to the three charges, but later amended his plea to guilty on the intent to sell charge in exchange for the remaining charges to be dismissed and that Reeves be released into treatment.
However, on March 4, a warrant was issued for failure to appear for a hearing, one of several times throughout the course of this case that Reeves had skipped a hearing.
Reeves’ court appearance Thursday also included initial appearances for the other two cases including the most recent one where officers discovered .5 grams of fentanyl on his person.
The arrest came just over 225 feet from Twin Towers, a public housing complex.
His next appearance for both his remaining cases will be on April 17 for an omnibus hearing. Reeves remains in custody in the Mower County Jail with no bail/bond option.
