Magatte Wade, Why African leaders allow climate activists to keep their countries in poverty

Magatte Wade Exposes How Environmentalism Keeps Africa Poor—with the Consent of Its Leaders

Senegalese entrepreneur and free-market advocate Magatte Wade is once again sounding the alarm on one of the greatest hypocrisies of the global elite: the use of environmentalism as a tool of control and systematic impoverishment in Africa. In a recent interview, Wade clearly denounced how environmental policies imposed by the West are not only stalling development across the African continent but actively ensuring that millions remain dependent under the false pretense of “climate aid.”

According to Wade, the narrative has changed but the power players remain the same. In the past, poverty was the excuse for interference. The West played savior, bringing “humanitarian aid” while setting strict economic conditions. But when it became obvious that free markets—not handouts—were the real solution to poverty, globalist institutions needed a new excuse. Enter climate change.

“When it became clear that free markets were the solution to poverty, the next thing they came up with was the environment,” Wade states. And she’s right. Today, while the developed world burns fossil fuels to power industries and maintain high living standards, Africa is told to avoid those same energy sources in the name of a “green transition” that conveniently benefits Western nations and their corporate allies.

Wade highlights the hypocrisy of climate activists dictating restrictive energy policies from comfortable offices in Paris, London, and New York—policies that stifle development in countries that haven’t even had the chance to grow. “Africa remains poor because it lacks access to energy,” she explains. No energy means no industry. And no industry means no independence.

Most troubling, according to Wade, is that this system is enabled by African leaders themselves. “Why do the leaders of Senegal or Africa allow this to happen? For the same reason they allowed foreign aid to be the only relationship we had with the West,” she says. It’s a silent deal: African governments accept these imposed conditions and receive money, political favors, and international legitimacy—without ever being accountable to their people.

The latest form of this control is called “climate aid.” A perverse twist on cooperation, climate aid tells African nations: “Don’t develop your own resources. Don’t use fossil fuels. And we’ll give you money.” But that money doesn’t create jobs or industry. It only finances bureaucracies and deepens dependency.

Magatte Wade is delivering a message that many in power would prefer to silence: radical environmentalism, now treated like a secular religion, is sacrificing Africa’s future to satisfy the guilt-ridden obsessions of privileged elites. If Africa wants to rise, it must break free from this trap. That starts with courageous leadership willing to reject environmental blackmail.
