Los Angeles police searching for a missing teenager from Lancaster discovered a body in Oxnard matching his description.

The Los Angeles Police Department said its Robbery-Homicide Division took the lead Monday and developed information that led them to an area of Oxnard. Officers worked with the FBI to search and found a body during a foot search, according to a statement issued Wednesday night.

It was not immediately clear when the body was found but officers answering the media line said investigators were in Oxnard Wednesday. They also said they did not have information about where investigators searched.

Neither the identity of the body nor the cause of death have been confirmed yet, according to the statement.

LAPD officials said the family of 13-year-old Oscar Omar Hernandez reported him missing Sunday when he failed to return home after visiting an acquaintance in Lancaster.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can visit lacrimestoppers.org or call 1-800-222-8477.
