Linkin Park Blocked From A New No. 1 By An Unlikely Champion

Linkin Park has returned — again – and the band’s momentum continues. The Grammy-winning hard rockers are back with a brand new single, and it’s become a quick success in the U.K. The new cut, titled “Up From the Bottom,” launches this week across a number of charts, and in most cases, it manages to reach impressive heights right out of the gate. The track performs especially well on one genre-specific tally, but its notable launch is not limited to that one roster, which speaks to how popular the group is in the country.

Linkin Park Comes Close to Another No. 1

“Up From the Bottom” debuts on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, a ranking that Linkin Park has become very familiar with over the years. The track doesn’t just start off well, it nearly runs the show. The single opens at No. 2, narrowly missing out on the top spot and what could have been another genre-specific champion for the band.

This time around, it’s “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls that keeps the rockers from running the show. That somewhat unlikely winner is a non-mover at No. 1 this frame, holding strong decades after it initially became a global hit, and after what’s now become a stunningly-long reign. “Iris” has now led the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart for 195 weeks – a nearly unheard-of stretch on any ranking.

“Up From the Bottom” is a Top 10 Smash on Multiple Charts

Beyond the rock tally, “Up From the Bottom” also enters the top 10 on a pair of other U.K. charts this week. The tune starts at No. 6 on the Official Singles Downloads list and comes in at No. 8 on the Official Singles Sales ranking. These two rosters count purchases only, as they highlight which cuts fans are willing to pay for.

The digital-only tally has now played host to nine Linkin Park top 10s, while the sales-focused list has seen just five enter that highest tier. But neither of those sums comes close to the band’s success on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, where “Up From the Bottom” gives Linkin Park its thirty-fourth top 10 placement.

Linkin Park Barely Misses the Top 40

While “Up From the Bottom” is an obvious hit in many ways, it doesn’t become an immediate smash on every tally right out of the gate. The tune launches at No. 42 on the Official Singles chart, which ranks the most-consumed songs in the U.K. based on a combination of sales and streaming. Somewhat frustratingly, it misses entering the important top 40 region by just two spots. “Up From the Bottom” also finds space on the Official Streaming roster, where it starts off at No. 91.

Linkin Park Continues Its Comeback Story

“Up From the Bottom” serves as the lead single from the upcoming deluxe re-release of From Zero, which served as Linkin Park’s first major project following the loss of frontman Chester Bennington more than half a decade ago. Nine tunes from the standard edition have appeared on the Official Rock & Metal Singles chart, and three of them climbed into the top 10. “The Emptiness Machine” spent six weeks at No. 1, while “Heavy is the Crown” and “Two Faced” peaked at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively.
