A Real Pain—Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin’s award-winning comedy drama—is new on Hulu this week.
Written and directed by Eisenberg, A Real Pain was released in theaters on Nov. 1, 2024. The logline for A Real Pain reads, “Mismatched cousins reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother, but their old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history.”
Eisenberg and Culkin play the cousins David Kaplan and Benji Kaplan, respectively, in the film. A Real Pain also stars Will Sharpe, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Egyiawan, Liza Sadovy and Daniel Oreskes.
According to the streamer, A Real Pain will arrive on streaming on Hulu on Thursday, Jan. 16. Viewers who want to watch A Real Pain must subscribe to Hulu to watch the film on the streaming service.
Hulu subscription plans run from $9.99 per month with ads to $18.99 per month without ads. Hulu—which is a Disney property—is also available through bundling plans with Disney+ and Max.
Viewers who don’t have Hulu also have the option to purchase or rent A Real Pain on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
‘A Real Pain’ Has Already Earned Several Awards Season Accolades
A Real Pain established an early presence on the awards circuit for films released in 2024.
On Jan. 5, Rory Culkin won the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture trophy at the 82nd Annual Golden Globes. A Real Pain was also nominated for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy Golden Globe and earned a Best Male Lead Actor nomination for Jessie Eisenberg in the category.
Eisenberg was also nominated for Best Screenplay, Motion Picture at the Golden Globes.
In addition, A Real Pain has earned a nomination for Best Pictures from the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, as well as nods for Best Supporting Actor for Culkin and Best Original Screenplay for Eisenberg.
Also, the National Board of Review named A Real Pain one of its top 10 films of 2024 and Culkin Best Supporting Actor. Culkin was also named Best Supporting Actor by the New York Film Critics Circle, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and the National Society of Film Critics Awards.
Eisenberg also won Best Screenplay honors from the LA Film Critics Association and National Society of Film Critics.
Most recently, Culkin was nominated for Best Supporting Actor by the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Wednesday.
A Real Pain is also a big hit with Rotten Tomatoes critics, who gave the film a 96% “fresh” rating based on 225 reviews.
Rated R, A Real Pain, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin, debuts on Hulu on Thursday.
