Kathy Hochul will use taxpayer money to pay for lawyers for illegal immigrants

Kathy Hochul: «They are leaving this court, separated from their families. They have no support, no attorneys. And that’s why the state of New York is providing $50 million to cover legal services
for people in this situation.»

Hochul publicly announced $50 million for legal assistance to illegal immigrants, although the actual budget was $64.2 million, amid pressure to raise that amount to $134 million. The decision has sparked debate: supporters of illegal immigrants defend it, while critics see it as a misguided prioritization of public resources—paying for legal services for illegal immigrants instead of allocating those public funds to fight insecurity, crime, and the housing crisis currently affecting New York.
