MELBOURNE — A juvenile was recovering Sunday after being struck by multiple cars after attempting to cross a busy stretch of road in Melbourne, police reported.

The juvenile, whose name, gender and hometown were not disclosed, was described as being in stable condition, police said.

The crash happened about 12:46 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Sarno Road and Garfield Street.

Melbourne police reported that the juvenile pedestrian was trying to walk across the street on Sarno Road with oncoming traffic having a green light.

The teen was first hit by a vehicle in the curb lane and then struck again by a second vehicle, police reported. The teen was knocked into a nearby patch of grass by the impact of the second vehicle, police said. Authorities did not disclose what happened to the drivers.

Officers arrived at the crash site within minutes. The juvenile was then airlifted to Orlando Hospital for Children and Women in Orlando.
