Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered flags lowered Monday in honor of former Senate Minority Leader and Columbus City Council member Ben Espy on the day of his funeral.
Dewine ordered that the U.S. and Ohio flags be flown at half-staff at all public buildings in Franklin County and at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center and Rhodes Tower from sunrise to sunset on Monday.
Flags throughout the U.S. are already being flown at half-staff through the end of January during the mourning period for former President Jimmy Carter.
Espy’s wake is being held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at First Church of God, 3480 Refugee Road, Columbus. A funeral is scheduled to follow the wake.
