James Carville Reacts to Zohran Mamdani NYC Primary Win, Says Democrats Can No Longer Escape Socialist Label (VIDEO)

Longtime Democrat strategist James Carville reacted to the Democrat primary win of the far left radical Zohran Mamdani in the New York mayoral race during an appearance on the ‘Politicon’ podcast this week.

Carville called it a ‘potentially damaging event’ and seemed to lament the fact that Democrats could no longer dodge the socialist label.

Anyone who remembers the 2008 election will recall how Democrats would foam at the mouth if anyone called Obama a socialist. Today, a sizable portion of the Democrat party openly describes themselves as Democratic Socialists. That is the faction to which Mamdani belongs.

Transcript via Real Clear Politics:

AL HUNT, CO-HOST: Well, I certainly agree with that. And New York City for all its attractions is not America. When Rudy Giuliani was elected mayor, it didn’t usher in a slew of pro-choice law and order Republicans.

Nor did Michael Bloomberg, who actually was an excellent mayor, pretend a plethora of billionaires, or Eric Adams, been an invitation for a bunch of corrupt mayors. So I think to say that New York City election is an indicator of what’s going to happen elsewhere is just off base. However, I do believe that Republicans will jump on this.

Elise Stefanik, a woman who never lets truth get in the way of her demagoguery, said just last night that this proves that the Democratic Party is now the party of communists. I mean, she’s going to take the socialists and one up them. Well, he’s not a communist, but he does have some issues that the Republicans will love to talk about.

JAMES CARVILLE, CO-HOST: Wish I had more of your attitude and less of mine. I have a chance today. I can’t imagine that Fox can be talking about anything else.

I can’t imagine that any Democratic candidate anywhere in the country is going to be able to escape answering this question. I think the microphones will follow them around. I think that they’re going to pound this home as hard as they possibly can.

This video is cued to start at the 3:58 mark:

Carville has been hounding his party for months to drop their far left faction but he has been unsuccessful in his efforts. The Mamdani win shows that is where the energy is in their party.
