Jade Thirlwall
WireImageFormer Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall has been teasing the release of her long-awaited debut solo album over the past year with singles like “Angel of My Dreams,” “Fantasy,” “Midnight Cowboy,” and “It Girl.” On each track, Jade has flexed a different musical muscle, showing an artist eager to break out of the pop princess box she was placed in as a part of the hitmaking girl group.
On her new single “FUFN (F**k You For Now),” Jade delivers what she described to Wonderland as her “most straight down-the-line pop song.” The timing of the release, she says, couldn’t be more right.
“I felt like now was a good time to release the big pop banger. Something with a big chorus that’s a lot more melodic than some of the other songs, but still with that Jade-ness to it,” she said. “The whole idea of ‘FUFN (F**k U For Now)’ is about loving someone, having a huge argument over something so small and just wanting them to f** off and leave you alone. It’s going to be okay later. The ‘For Now’ is in brackets, you know?”
She noted to Capital that the song wasn’t necessarily inspired by real-life events, though the emotions behind the song are genuine. “I had this concept written down and it stemmed from having a dream about my boyfriend cheating on me and waking up the next day fuming. So that’s how it kind of began,” she said. With the help of “Midnight Cowboy” co-writer Raye, she “brainstormed about how to make it more about a big argument you have [when]
you know it’s not the end but you really want to let them have it in that moment.”
Jade’s debut solo album is forthcoming in 2025.
