Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert says winning Super Bowl LIX is even “more sweet” … [+]
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert can proudly call himself a Super Bowl champion.
Goedert has seen it all during his seven seasons in the league. He was the starting tight end when the team lost a heartbreaker in Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs and when it appeared the Eagles had the right team primed for revenge last season after a 10-1 start, Philadelphia fizzled and were eliminated in the wild card round of the playoffs.
It doesn’t matter now after the Eagles soundly defeated the Chiefs, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX.
“One of the toughest times in my life was when I lost the Super Bowl,” says Goedert in a one-on-one interview. “You make it that far, you never expect to lose that game and you lose. It’s a long season that didn’t end the way you want it. You’re kind of stuck, you got six months until you get to play another football game.”
The 30-year-old tight end talks about how the Super Bowl win is “sweeter” considering what the Eagles have been through over the past two seasons.
“We started last year off pretty well,” says Goedert. “We were 10-1 and then we kind of hit a little adversity that we weren’t able to overcome. Looking back at it, as a team, that was able to make us better. Finding a way in the offseason to figure out the problems that we had and try to make sure they didn’t happen again.
“Being able to go to the Super Bowl, play the team that you lost to two years ago, stop them from a three-peat, it’s pretty incredible,” Goedert continues to say. “All of the stuff happened for a reason. It just makes it that much more sweet.”
Dallas Goedert Gives Props To Kellen Moore: ‘He Did A Great Job’
While the Eagles will clearly enjoy their second Super Bowl in franchise history in the meantime – they’ll have their championship parade on Friday – they’ll have to look to repeat as champs without their offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Moore is taking the head coaching job with the New Orleans Saints.
Moore had a tremendous impact in his first and lone season in Philadelphia, helping lift the Eagles to having the second-best rushing attack after the addition of Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley.
“Ever since Kellen stepped in the building, you know, it was fun to get to know him, get to learn about him,” says Goedert of Moore. “He’s got so much knowledge about football, which was really cool. It’s sad to see him leave. I tried to give him my spiel to stay one more year because he was so good to us.”
Goedert points out how Moore actually became better as the year progressed and he was “good” at diversifying the game plan based upon the opponent. The Eagles won 16 of their final 17 games to close out the 2024 season.
“He did a great job,” says Goedert. “Just analyzing the last three years that we had, was able to look at the success we had on certain plays and brought his own things that he thought we could do well. He just developed as the year went on.
“He was so good at making sure no matter how the game was going, he found a way to keep us successful,” Goedert continues to say. “Sometimes it was handing it off to Saquon the entire day, and sometimes it was dialing it up in the pass game. He just has a great knack for calling a game and making sure we’re doing what we’re supposed to be doing to have success at the end.”
Dallas Goedert Speaks on Amgen Partnership
Goedert is speaking on behalf of his partnership with Amgen, which helps him deal with plaque psoriasis, something he’s dealt with since he was 10 years old.
“I’ve been dealing with plaque psoriasis since I was about 10 years old,” Goedert explains. “It’s a condition that causes flaky, rough patches on my skin. Being a football player with plaque psoriasis, it’s hard because you’re in a locker room, everybody sees it. You try not to be too embarrassed. You try to let them know that it’s not contagious and all the different things.”
Goedert has been partnered with Amgen since last year and has been on the treatment plan over the past few months.
“I always struggled putting on topical ointments and creams because between sweating at practices, showering, having to rush to meetings, it was hard to maintain that in my schedule,” says Goedert. “I was able to partner with Amgen and talk to my doctor and found something that worked for me and works from within. It’s been a game changer for me.”
