Kentucky transportation officials are predicting “profound delays” as the state repairs parts of Interstate 71/75 in Boone and Kenton counties next week.
Crews will be stabilizing soil and repairing pavement in two areas on the roadway beginning Monday night, the Kentucky Transporation Cabinet said in a news release.
Workers will drill from the pavement into the soil, injecting polymer to raise sunken slabs and smooth out the road.
“Expect profound delays,” its release said, advising motorists to seek alternatives for travel.
Work to run Monday-Friday next week
Here’s what’s in store between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting Monday, weather permitting.
On Monday night, crews will work on northbound I-71/75 at the Turfway Road overpass, with a single right lane closure.
Other work follows, also overnight, Tuesday through March 21:
-
Crews will close two right-hand lanes at the interchange of northbound I-71/75 and I-275 for work, keeping the remaining lane on the left open.
-
Workers will close three lanes at northbound I-71/75 near Donaldson Highway in Erlanger and Turfway Road in Florence, to funnel motorists to the lane reductions ahead.
-
Crews will block on-ramps at Donaldson to northbound I-71/75 and I-275 and at Turfway to northbound I-71/75 for the work. Ramps from the interstate to those locations will remain open.
Barring weather interruptions, the work should be done by March 21. Any changes will be posted to KYTC District 6 social media channels.
The work will cost close to $18,000, according to Jake Ryle, a spokesperson for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
