HUGE: El Salvador Parliament Scraps Term Limits, Opening up the Way for Young, Popular President Nayib Bukele to Be Reelected Multiple Times

Bukele now has the right to run for reelection as many times as he wants.

The Central American Republic of El Salvador used to be the most violent place in the world.

But then, President Nayib Bukele came along, with a radical plan – detractors would call it ‘extreme’ – and totally turned things around, to the point where the country is now the safest in the western hemisphere.

So, it’s not surprising that the ally of President J. Trump has scored a major victory in Parliament yesterday (1), when Salvadorean lawmakers ‘passed constitutional amendments eradicating term limits’.

The Hill reported:

“The measure was passed in a 57-3 vote just one year after Bukele broke with the law setting term limits by saying he would seek a second term as president.

The nation’s Supreme Court ruled in 2021 it was his right to run again, foreshadowing the actions by lawmakers.”

Bukele is literally the most popular democratically-elected leader in the world.

He took El Salvador from the murder capital of the world to the safest country in the Western hemisphere.

“‘This is quite simple, El Salvador: only you will have the power to decide how long you wish to support the work of any public official, including your president’, said elected official Ana Figueroa, who proposed the bill, according to Reuters.”

Trump meets with his ally, El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele, in the Oval Office.

The approved bills also extend presidential terms to six years, and sets the electoral calendar so that congressional and presidential elections occur in the same years.

Needless to say, the opposition and leftist NGOs deeply disapprove the changes.

“’The day before vacation, without debate, without informing the public, in a single legislative vote, they changed the political system to allow the president to perpetuate himself in power indefinitely and we continue to follow the well-traveled path of autocrats’, said Noah Bullock, executive director of rights group Cristosal, according to Reuters.”

Not only did Bukele enrage the Latin-American leftist establishment by mass incarcerating gang members and other dangerous criminals, but is readily collaborating with the Trump administration by ‘hosting’ some of the most hardened illegal aliens with gang affiliations or criminal convictions.

“EL SALVADOR APPROVES INDEFINITE PRESIDENTIAL REELECTION, EXTENDS TERMS TO 6 YEARS El Salvador’s National Assembly voted 57-3 Thursday to allow unlimited presidential reelection and extend terms to six years, solidifying President Nayib Bukele‘s leadership after dramatic crime reductions. The constitutional changes come as El Salvador experiences historic security improvements under Bukele, with homicide rates dropping from 103 per 100,000 in 2015 to just 2.4 in 2023 – making it Latin America’s safest country. Bukele’s anti-gang crackdown arrested over 75,000 suspected gang members, dismantling MS-13 and Barrio 18’s control over neighborhoods. The changes also eliminate runoff elections and move elections to synchronized schedules.”
