The NFL playoffs start this weekend with the Wild Card round. The AFC top seed Kansas City Chiefs and the NFC top seed Detroit Lions both have byes in this initial round and won’t play until the Divisional round which will be held Jan. 18-19.

The Conference championships will be played Sunday, Jan. 26 and the Super Bowl will take place two weeks later, Sunday, Feb. 9

AFC Wild Card Games

The postseason gets underway with the fourth-seeded Houston Texans (10-7) hosting the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Chargers (11-6). The Texans defended the AFC South title successfully and quarterback C.J. Stroud has led the Texans to the playoffs in each of his first two seasons. The Chargers had a brilliant season in head coach Jim Harbaugh’s first year with the team.

The third-seeded Baltimore Ravens (12-5) come into the playoffs on a roll, having won their last four games and quarterback Lamar Jackson has an excellent chance to win his third MVP award. The sixth-seeded Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7) have lost their last four games and quarterback Russell Wilson has not thrown for more than 217 yards in any of those games.

The second-seeded Buffalo Bills (13-4) host the seventh-seeded Denver Broncos (10-7). Hopes are high in Buffalo since quarterback Josh Allen led the Bills to victories over both the Chiefs and the Lions during the regular season. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix and head coach Sean Payton face a huge challenge against the dominant Bills.

NFC Wild Card Games

The second-seeded Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) feature the powerful ground game of Saquon Barkley, the leadership of quarterback Jalen Hurts and a dominant defense. The seventh-seeded Green Bay Packers (11-6) lost their last two games, but quarterback Jordan Love has demonstrated he can perform well in the postseason.

The third-seeded Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10-7) earned the NFC South title behind resourceful quarterback Baker Mayfield and game-changing wide out Mike Evans. The sixth-seeded Washington Commanders (12-5) demonstrated huge improvement under head coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The fourth-seeded Los Angeles Rams (10-7) emerged as the NFC West winners after winning five of their last six games for head coach Sean McVay. The fifth-seeded Minnesota Vikings (14-3) had a brilliant season with Sam Darnold at quarterback, but they fell badly in their season finale against the Lions that could have given them the No. 1 seed and a bye in this round.

If the current wild impacting the Los Angeles area force the NFL’s hand, the game will be moved from SoFi Stadium to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ. State Farm Stadium is the home of the Arizona Cardinals.
