The brand’s journey began in 2020 when founder Lily Clempson, a London native and Parsons School of Design graduate, was quarantining with her parents in East Hampton, New York. Among her family’s belongings were vintage Hermès beach towels inherited from her grandmother. Inspired by the unique patterns and textures, Clempson repurposed the towels into face masks, launching a charitable initiative to raise funds for Food Bank for New York City. The project was an unexpected success, creating over 400 masks and raising $10,000.

This small act of upcycling ignited a larger vision. Recognizing the potential of forgotten luxury fabrics, Clempson partnered with Michel Cantin, a 86-year-old former couture designer whose résumé includes stints under Jacques Fath in Paris and Broadway costume design in New York. Together, they built LilyEve, combining Clempson’s contemporary design sensibilities with Cantin’s unparalleled craftsmanship.

Today, the brand is celebrated for its zero-waste philosophy and bespoke creations. Each jacket, coat, and accessory is handcrafted from pre-loved materials sourced from luxury brands like Hermès and Gucci. Every piece is unique and meticulously designed to honor the original fabric’s texture and story. With no two items alike, LilyEve offers customers a chance to own something genuinely personal and sustainable.

In an interview with the magazine Hello, Clempson explains: “I wish people knew how much time and effort goes into creating a sustainable fashion brand, in this day and age of consumerism it’s hard to not be swayed into mass producing, or going for the cheaper fabric.”
