President Trump was caught on a hot mic with a European leader on Monday, signaling that a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was already in the works before Trump met with European leaders to negotiate a peace agreement.
“I think he [Putin] wants to make a deal. I think he wants to make a deal for me,” Trump said seconds before the meeting.
“You understand that? As crazy as it sounds.”
Trump made the comments ahead of the meeting with Zelensky, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
It appears that the President was speaking with French President Macron.

Trump: Yeah. I think with Putin we have to do something and set up a trilat, you know? So, we’ll do that.
Macron: And where do you want to do it?
Trump: I think he wants to make a deal. I think he wants to make a deal for me. You understand that? As crazy as it sounds… Sit down, sit down, everybody.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump later spoke to Putin on the phone and announced that a meeting will take place between Putin and Zelensky to possibly end the war once and for all.
Trump also confirmed that he already “began the arrangements” for Zelensky and Putin to meet.
“After that meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself,” he said.
German Chancellor Merz told reporters that the meeting is set to happen within two weeks.
