COURTESY PHOTO Keone Peter Tosie Brown COURTESY PHOTO Keone Peter Tosie Brown Hawaii island police today charged Keone Peter Tosie Brown, 30, of Hilo with second-degree murder and first-degree terroristic threatening Sunday for allegedly stabbing his 81-year-old neighbor to death Saturday morning.

Brown’s bail is set at $2, 020, 000 and will remain in police custody pending his first court appearance Monday in South Hilo District Court.

According to police, officers responded at 7 :22 a.m. to a report of an unresponsive woman with stab wounds to her face at her home on the 200 block of Olu Street. Officers found the victim lying in the driveway with multiple injuries.

When the Hawaii Fire Department arrived, police said they determined “the victim was beyond life-saving measures.” She was pronounced dead at Hilo Medical Center at 9 :57 a.m.

Her identity was not immediately released pending notification of her family.

A witness told police that she saw the suspect repeatedly stab the victim then “he turned his attention toward (the witness ) and threatened her with the knife before retreating to his property, ” police said.

Police located Brown on his property adjoining the victim’s property, and officials said they discovered him hiding along a fence on his adjacent property.

He was arrested without incident and transported to the East Hawaii Detention Facility, police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for this week to determine the exact cause of death.
