Michigan residents could see winds as strong as 55 mph Monday, the National Weather Service said.
The weather service said a wind advisory is in effect for most of Michigan from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday because of the potential for winds gusting between 45 mph and 55 mph.
The advisory covers all of the Lower Peninsula and parts of the UP.
“Windy conditions developing across the region on Monday with southwest winds gusting 40 to 50 mph,” the NWS in Detroit said on X. “Peak gusts are expected Monday afternoon, with highest gusts in the Saginaw Valley and Thumb regions.”
In addition, the Great Lakes are all under small craft advisories and gale warnings through Monday afternoon, and parts of the Lake Superior shoreline are under a lakeshore flood advisory, the National Weather Service said.
The NWS said drivers could face difficult conditions for high profile vehicles, there may be power outages, down tree branches and unsecured objects could be blown around.
Parts of the eastern UP could see 1 to 3 inches of new snow, 1 to 2 inches are possible in the northwest Lower Peninsula, and an inch or less in other areas, the NWS said.
West Michigan will see ‘blustery’ conditions
The Grand Rapids NWS office on Sunday to expect blustery conditions Monday, but otherwise the week will see “pretty tame weather compared to last week.”
Temperatures will be near or slightly above average, the NWS said, with some light snow accumulation Monday to Wednesday, and occasions of sunshine.
Northern Michigan will see warmer temperatures, with wind
The Gaylord NWS office said to expect milder temperatures, but high winds on Monday.
“Following a quiet night (Sunday), expecting windy conditions to build Monday, leading to blowing snow accompanying any snow showers. Additional snow chances linger into midweek,” the weather service said.
The NWS is predicting gusts up to 48 mph at Beaver Island, St. Ignace, Drummond Island, Rogers City and Alpena. Winds will be in the 40-45 mph range elsewhere.
UP will see windy conditions Monday
Strong southwest to westerly winds (Sunday night) will continue into Monday across Upper Michigan, the weather service said.
“Gusts up to 55 mph are possible in the Keweenaw by Monday morning and up to 45 mph near Lake Superior, especially in Marquette county,” the NWS said on X. “A cold front brings a quick hit of (lake effect snow) late Monday.”
Temperatures will be 15 to 22 degrees, possibly colder inland from Lake Superior. Areas along the Lake Superior shoreline, including Isle Royale, the Keweenaw, and from east of Marquette to near Grand Marais, are under a lakeshore flood advisory as well.
