CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – FEBRUARY 08: (L-R) Giselle, Winter, Karina, and Ningning of aespa … [+]
Following an explosive year for aespa’s critically acclaimed single “Supernova,” the K-pop quartet will be recognized with the Group of the Year Award at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event.
Per an exclusive reveal able to be announced on Forbes first, “K-pop supergroup aespa” consisting of members Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning earn Group of the Year “for their groundbreaking achievements in music and international recognition.” By the time the Women in Music Awards take place in Los Angeles on March 29, the group will have completed their Synk: Parallel Line world tour days prior in Seoul after playing audiences across Asia, Australia, North America and Europe.
aespa’s selection as Group of the Year Award puts the quartet in good company following previous winners like Fifth Harmony (the inaugural winner of the award in 2015) and fellow K-pop sensations NewJeans (who were honored in 2024). Nine-member girl group TWICE scored the Breakthrough Artist award in 2023, further proving the impact of girl groups in today’s global music industry.
“The 2025 Billboard Women in Music event celebrates the incredible women who continue to drive innovation, inspire change, and reshape the future of music,” Dana Droppo, Billboard Chief Brand Officer, said in a statement.
“From rising stars to legendary icons, this year’s honorees are redefining what it means to be a trailblazer in the industry,” Billboard’s Editor-in-Chief Hannah Karp added. “We’re honored to highlight their outstanding achievements and contributions through unforgettable performances, powerful tributes, and an evening that will truly shine a spotlight on their impact. It’s a privilege to continue Billboard’s tradition of recognizing the women who are pushing the boundaries of music and culture, and we can’t wait to share this incredible night with our global audience.”
Other announced honorees for this year’s Women in Music include Erykah Badu, Meghan Trainor, Muni Long, Gracie Abrams, GloRilla, Megan Moroney, Tyla and Ángela Aguilar so far.
Emmy nominee and trailblazing actress Laverne Cox hosts the 2025 Women in Music event on Saturday, March 29, at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, Los Angeles. Alongside honorees (including BLACKPINK star Jennie) and industry pioneers, a slate of performers and presenters, plus the coveted 2025 Billboard Woman of the Year title, will all be announced in the coming weeks.
