Green Day’s latest album Saviors marked a special comeback project for the band. The title added to the ongoing list of chart wins from the rockers, and it’s brought the three musicians back to the Grammys for the first time in well over a decade. If the set earns the one prize it’s up for, the legendary pop punk pioneers will break out of a tie with several superstar acts and make history.
Saviors is in the running for Best Rock Album at the 2025 Grammys. If the title is named the champion, it will mark Green Day’s third moment of glory in the category. Only one other act has managed at least a trio of wins, and currently, the band is tied with several other well-known names with a pair of rulers.
Green Day is currently matched with four other acts for the second-most wins in the Best Rock Album vertical. The current nominees are matched with Cage the Elephant, Sheryl Crow, Muse, and U2, as all those bands—as well as the one singer—have also earned this coveted trophy twice.
Only the Foo Fighters beat those stars. The Dave Grohl-led band has accrued five Best Rock Album Grammys. Another Green Day win would help the group break the current tie with U2, Crow, Muse, and Cage the Elephant, but it will be years before the outfit comes close to approaching the current all-time record.
Green Day won Best Rock Album at two ceremonies with back-to-back releases. The band came out on top for the first time 20 years ago with American Idiot. Half a decade later, 21st Century Breakdown won as well.
Impressively, Green Day has collected Best Rock Album every year the band has been up for the prize…at least before Saviors was included in the current roundup. If the band can claim this piece of hardware, that track record will remain perfect, though competition is especially fierce this year, as there are more nominees than usual.
Seven projects are vying for the prize at the 2025 ceremony. Green Day’s Saviors is up against Happiness Bastards by The Black Crowes, Romance by Fontaines D.C., Tangk by Idles, Dark Matter by Pearl Jam, Hackney Diamonds by the Rolling Stones, and No Name by Jack White. Several relatively new names are nominated, but so, too, are genre favorites like Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones, who may simply be too beloved for voters to pass over.
Green Day has three chances to win more Grammys this year. In addition to Best Rock Album, two tracks from Saviors are nominated as well. “The American Dream Is Killing Me” is a possible Best Rock Performance champion, while “Dilemma” might be named Best Rock Song. The winner will be named on Sunday, February 2, when the Grammys air live on CBS.
