Texas Governor Greg Abbott warned House Democrats that they will forfeit their offices if they are not present at the Legislature by 3 p.m. on Monday. The governor stated he plans to remove them from office and fill the vacant seats under powers authorized by the Texas Constitution.
“This truancy ends now,” Governor Abbott (R) said in a Sunday night statement. “The derelict Democrat House members must return to Texas and be in attendance when the House reconvenes at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025.
