Professional golf legend Phil Mickelson on Saturday commented on President Donald Trump’s plan to honor Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk posthumously.
Mickelson shared a post that highlighted the fact the president is going to award the conservative activist, who was violently assassinated in September, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
“His presence and message will live forever but I still wish he was here. This award is well deserved,” the golf legend wrote:
Social media users were quick to reply to his post, one person writing, “Thank you. This is an important message.”
“Nobody more deserving. The ultimate American,” another user said.
Kirk was fatally shot during a speaking event on September 10 at Utah Valley University. His murder shocked the world and millions of people are mourning his loss. However, some leftists celebrated it.
During a September 11, 2001, observance event the day after Kirk was assassinated, Trump remembered Kirk and said he would be honoring him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Breitbart News reported at the time:
“Our prayers are with his wonderful wife, Erika, and his beautiful children, fantastic people they are. We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie’s voice and the courage he put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on,” he added.
Trump then revealed his plans to honor Kirk.
“I’m pleased to announce that I will soon be awarding Charlie Kirk posthumously the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The date of the ceremony will be announced, and I can only guarantee you one thing: that we will have a very big crowd, very, very big,” Trump said.
Mickelson later criticized Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over comments she made about Kirk.
“Ilhan spews hate every time she opens her mouth, she came here fraudulently and will hopefully be sent back to Somalia soon,” he wrote in a social media post:
Meanwhile, Breitbart News reported Saturday that President Trump is working hard to return to Washington, DC, to personally award Kirk the medal during a White House ceremony on what would have been his 32nd birthday.
