Give it a Rest: Ten Years After Taking a Knee, Colin Kaepernick Says He’s Still Calling Teams Begging for NFL Comeback (VIDEO)

Disgraced ex-NFL quarterback turned Black Lives Matter activist Colin Kaepernick said this week that he still wants to make a comeback to the NFL and is actively looking for his shot after nearly a decade of not playing.

The 38-year-old, who was never extraordinarily good, recently appeared in an interview with Men’s Health, where he said that despite no longer even watching the NFL, he’s still desperately calling teams for his chance.

“I’ll follow the stat lines to be able to see also what teams we should be calling,” he said before going on about “the history and legacy of black quarterbacks.”

Asked by Men’s Health fitness director Ebenezer Samuel if he’s “game ready” and wanting to “get in and still play,” Kaepernick said “Oh, yes.”

“I still train five days a week. I’m up at 4:30 in the morning doing my training before I go about the rest of my day,” he said.

Kaepernick last played — and lost — with the 49ers on January 1, 2017, months after he began kneeling for the National Anthem and made fans hate him. After entering free agency that year, he was never signed again.

WATCH:

Kaepernick: I don’t watch any of the games anymore, but I I do love seeing the young quarterbacks coming up being successful. I’ll follow the stat lines to be able to see also what teams we should be calling. Yeah. But that becomes part of, I think, overall the the history and legacy of black quarterbacks is we have changed the game. It does look different because of the play and how it showed up, and we’ve also got to see an evolution of that towards that being more normal.

Samuel: You said you said a lot of interesting stuff in there. I got to pick up on one thing. You said you follow the stat lines to see which teams you should be calling. So, are you still kind of actively— you actively like are are game ready, you want to get in and still play?

Kaepernick: Oh yes. I still train five days a week. I’m up at 4:30 in the morning doing my training before I go about the rest of my day, and maybe this goes a little bit back to me being a masochist, the dedication there. But I have to do everything that is in my control to make sure that I’m prepared. And I mean that, whether that’s training, whether that’s making sure I’m making the right calls. I want to make sure that what I have control over, I’m showing up the best way possible there.

Last year, Kaepernick’s girlfriend also revealed that he’s working “all day, every day” for the chance to play.

“It’s all up to the teams [and] if they’ll let him,” she said when asked if he’s trying to be in the NFL again.
