TODAY: Mostly Sunny, Clouds Late. Hi 16.
TONIGHT: Clearing Skies, Frigid. Lo 2.
THURSDAY: Mostly Sunny, A Bit Warmer. Hi 27.
Yesterday morning had an official low of -5° marking the coldest temperature this winter! Based on our records, the last time the temperature officially dropped below zero at HIA was February 2018. Yesterday’s low is also the coldest temperature in 31 years since the all-time record low for Harrisburg was set which dropped to -22° in January of 1994. That arctic air mass also followed a snowstorm, the blizzard of ’94. This cold air mass combined with Sunday’s snow has allowed the 30-year cold to descend into Central PA. It’s pretty impressive. This morning could beat yesterday with even colder temperatures across the region and many backyards dipping below zero. Stay tuned for the final numbers later today.
Expect mostly sunny skies today with highs staying in the teens. Clouds roll in by late afternoon and evening but won’t stick around. Skies will clear tonight as low temperatures again fall to frigid levels. Most backyards will be in the low single digits tonight.
By tomorrow and Friday, high temperatures will climb a bit but still look to stay below freezing. It’s not until the weekend that temperatures return to seasonable levels. The actual weather this week looks quiet with no precipitation expected. The weekend remains quiet too and seasonable as the next chance for some active weather looks to be early next week. Too early to determine much, but some brief snow showers could be possible on Monday and Tuesday. No major winter storms are ahead for now.
