Eleven members of the House Freedom Caucus sent a letter to their GOP colleagues outlining what they want to see from Mike Johnson after he retained the speaker’s gavel Friday.

The 11 members, who are on the group’s board, made clear they still have reservations about Johnson, despite ultimately supporting him after a dramatic first ballot that initially seemed to leave Johnson short of the votes needed to win the gavel.

“Speaker Johnson must prove he will not fail to enact President Trump’s bold agenda,” the group wrote in the letter.

They added that they want to see Johnson put forward legislation that hits on a range of policy goals including securing the border, lowering inflation and ending stock trading by members of Congress, among other provisions.

They also said they believe Johnson should have made several commitments including adding in-session work days to the House calendar, sticking to the 72-hour rule and making sure upcoming reconciliation bills reduce spending and the deficit.
