Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will return from her 15-month maternity leave and compete on the WTA Tour later this month in Austin, Texas.

Kvitova, who won Wimbledon titles in 2011 and 2014, last played at the China Open in October 2023. That year, she ended as the world No. 14, winning titles in Miami and Berlin to increase her singles title haul to 31.

The Czech player announced in January 2024 that she was expecting her first child with husband and coach Jiri Vanek. She gave birth to their son Petr in July, during the Wimbledon fortnight.

The 34-year-old said she is excited to return to the circuit and plans to play at the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin, Texas before the WTA 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami.

“Hi everyone. I hope you all had a great start to 2025 so far. I am here to tell you some exciting news – after 15 months being away from tennis and having my baby boy, Petr, I am coming back to the tennis circuit,” Kvitova said in a video posted on her Instagram account.

“I really miss tennis, and miss competing, so I’m really looking forward to be back… I can’t wait to see all my fans, all around the world. Thank you very much for supporting me. It will be a nice journey, and I can’t wait.

“Bye. See you soon,” she concluded.

The ATX Open will run from February 24 to March 2 in Austin, Texas. The Indian Wells will be held from March 5 to 16 followed by March 18-30 Miami Open. All three tournaments are hard-court events.
