Florida’s Lake County to Name Road in Honor of Charlie Kirk

Florida’s Lake County has approved naming a road in honor of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Commissioner Anthony Sabatini, a former state representative, made the announcement this week.

“HUGE NEWS—My Resolution to name a road in honor of the great Charlie Kirk just PASSED 5-0!” he announced. “Lake County is now the 1st local government in the nation to name a road after the great @charliekirk11.”

“Thank you to my colleagues on the Lake County Commission & to Floridians across the state who supported this proposal! Hoping more counties & cities across the country follow our lead! FOR CHARLIE ,” he added.

Turning Point USA spokesman and executive producer of The Charlie Kirk Show, Andrew Kolvet, also posted about the news.

“Amazing. In what I hope is the first of many, Lake County, Florida has just named a road after Charlie Kirk. I would love to see Charlie Kirk highways all over America as an enduring reminder of his sacrifice for this country,” he said, thanking Sabatini for “spearheading” the effort.

Despite the fact that this was passed in a unanimous vote, WESH reported that it triggered “heated” public debate, with most speakers “vehemently against honoring Kirk in this fashion…”

After one man suggested these types of honors should be reserved for people like fallen LCSO Deputy Bradley Link, Sabatini laid into him.

“How dare you use that deputy’s name for your petty, bulls**t political argument, how dare you! How dare you!” Sabatini erupted. “Disgusting. You’re a disgusting person!”

The outburst further inflamed the already enraged crowd.

However, some speakers were in favor of the change as well.

This also comes as Florida’s City of Melbourne considers renaming part of its Cypress Avenue as Charlie Kirk Lane.

As Breitbart News reported:

The stretch of road that would be renamed is currently Cypress Avenue, where a business called Lamb & Co. Fishmongers sits. The business has come under heavy scrutiny after the owner — now apologetic — publicly celebrated the death of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in public during a speaking event at Utah Valley University.

The owner, Kaili Lamb, initially wrote on social media, “Sorry, not sorry what a (expletive) douche” but has since apologized and deleted the post, calling it a “terrible mistake.

Lamb told Florida Today that she received “threatening online messages and phone calls” after her post and apologized publicly a few days ago, taking full responsibility for the inappropriate comments, admitting they were “deeply inappropriate and hurtful.”

Melbourne Mayor Paul Alfrey has maintained that this is not about retaliation against the business owner. It is the “idea that the city of Melbourne represents all people.”

“I fought and changed the airport road to Martin Luther King Boulevard and I got a lot of backlash,” Alfrey added.
