FC Barcelona has made an important transfer policy decision and chosen its top target for the upcoming summer window according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Hansi Flick managed to win a domestic treble in 2024/2025 despite welcoming just two new players to a squad that went without silverware in the previous term under his predecessor Xavi Hernandez.

Barca is the team to topple in European football, and the likes of bitter rival Real Madrid are already getting to work on trying to do that after being on the losing side of the last four Clasicos and both the Super Cup final and Copa del Rey finals to the Catalans.

President Florentino Perez has already had his chequebook out by signing defensive reinforcement Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth, and has reportedly struck an agreement to bring Nico Paz back from Como.

More transfers are planned, and his counterpart at Barca Joan Laporta knows he too must bring fresh faces to Montjuic, or Camp Nou, to continue competing.

That will apparently be done after important contract renewals like that of Raphinha have been signed, as confirmed by Laporta himself on Catalan channel TV3.

Not too long ago, it was reported that Flick wanted a versatile full back capable of playing on either flank to provide back up to Alejandro and Jules Kounde, who were both injured or lacking match fitness for the Champions League semifinal second leg KO to Inter Milan.

Because of the strong performances of Gerard Martin and Eric Garcia providing cover, however, while Hector fort is also another option, that isn’t a priority anymore.

FC Barcelona has a top transfer target

In a similar fashion, bringing in a new signing that can play on the left wing, and preferably other positions on the front line, to give Raphinha and Lamine Yamal a rest when needed, has always been considered important.

Perhaps because of this, SPORT says that FC Barcelona’s top summer transfer target is recently-crowned Premier League champion Liverpool’s Luis Diaz. To land the Colombia, however, the Blaugrana will have to part with at least $96.3 million (€85 million) which once more probably makes them dependent on player sales.
